Alan LaPierre
for Petaluma City Council, District 1
A small business owner running to keep Petaluma a place where working families can put down roots.
Petaluma is at a turning point.
From housing costs to the future of our downtown and fairgrounds, the decisions our next council makes will shape this city for the next 25 years. Alan is running for District 1 because he believes those decisions should be made with neighbors — not for them.
Meet Alan
Six years ago, Alan LaPierre chose Petaluma to call home. A California-licensed general contractor, real estate professional, and onsite property manager, Alan has spent his career solving problems, managing projects, working with property owners and residents, and finding practical ways to get things done. Petaluma isn't simply where Alan works — it's home, and it's where he has built his life and businesses.
Alan believes community involvement doesn’t always need a spotlight. He privately supports local charitable organizations each year and prefers to keep the organizations he helps out of politics. Through his work and daily life in Petaluma, he has also spent years working directly with residents, homeowners, local businesses, contractors, and city departments — experience that has given him a practical understanding of the issues people face every day.
"Alan is running for City Council because he believes decisions should be made with neighbors — not for them."
On the council, Alan will bring practical experience, an open door, and a commitment to listening before voting. He'd be honored to earn your vote this November!

The Issues
Alan's priorities come from conversations with District 1 neighbors — at front doors, at the farmers market, and along the river. Here's where he stands.
Housing Working Families Can Afford
Too many people who work in Petaluma — including teachers, nurses, first responders, service workers, and young families — are being priced out of the community they serve.
Alan supports creating more attainable workforce housing without sacrificing the character of established neighborhoods or overwhelming local infrastructure. That means putting new housing where it makes sense, requiring thoughtful design, and making sure roads, parking, utilities, public safety, and other services can support the growth before projects are approved.
Petaluma can welcome new neighbors while still protecting what makes our neighborhoods worth calling home.
A Downtown That Works for Everyone
The debate over downtown development has divided the city. Alan believes downtown should evolve in a way that strengthens local businesses, preserves Petaluma’s historic character, and reflects meaningful public input.
Growth should improve downtown — not make it harder to reach, harder to navigate, or less welcoming to the people who already live, work, and shop here.
Fixing Our Streets and Sidewalks
Potholes, cracked sidewalks, and aging infrastructure are daily frustrations in District 1. Alan will push for a clear, publicly available repair schedule so residents can see what is being fixed, when it is being fixed, and how priorities are being set.
District 1 should receive its fair share of infrastructure investment, with resources focused on the streets and sidewalks that need attention most.
The River and Our Climate Future
The Petaluma River is part of the identity of this town and an important part of its future. Alan supports responsible river maintenance, stronger flood preparedness, safer walking and biking connections, and practical steps that make Petaluma cleaner and more resilient.
Climate policy should produce visible local results — protecting our river, reducing waste, improving transportation choices, and preparing our neighborhoods for the challenges ahead.
The Fairgrounds
The future of the Sonoma-Marin Fairgrounds is one of the biggest decisions facing Petaluma. Alan believes the fairgrounds should remain a true community asset, with any long-term plan shaped by open public discussion and a clear understanding of what residents want.
Homelessness and Public Safety
Alan supports a practical approach to homelessness that connects people with shelter, treatment, and services while keeping parks, sidewalks, neighborhoods, and public spaces safe and accessible for everyone.
